BIRMINGHAM – She did it again. Darton State College sophomore Anna Macht broke the school record in the 500 freestyle, Saturday, at the Birmingham Southern Invitational.
After shattering school records in the 100 free, 200 free, 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke in her freshman and sophomore years at Darton, you might think the 500 free would be another notch on her belt. It’s not.
She supposed to be just a sprinter, right? But apparently no one told her that. Still she went ahead and won the 50 free in 24.67 too.
“And we hadn’t shaved or tapered,” Darton head women’s swim coach Molly Gilbert said. “We’ve been training hard all week.”
And Macht wasn’t the only Cavalier who performed well against the 4-year programs Saturday. Sandra Guerrero finished 2nd in the 200 and 100 free (2:00.15, 55.21, respectively). Sophomore Emily Mitchell won the 100 breaststroke.
Diver Kelsey won the 1-meter, 6-dive event with 258.07 points. The latest polls have not been released this week, but that performance is expected to push her to the top spot in the NJCAA.
