Lady Jags Capture Region Women's DI Basketball Title
Championship: At some point South Georgia Technical College had to loose a game against a conference foe, but today's game was not the game in which they wanted it to happen. The Lady Jags jumped out to an early lead against what appeared to be a sluggish Lady Jets team and never looked back on their way to a 83-47 route capturing the GCAA Region 17 Championship. Kamiya Burwell shot 80% from the field to finish with 24 points Brittany Logan finished 13 points and 16 rebounds. Samantha Phillips led the Lady Jets with 13 points.
Semifinals: Top seed South Georgia Tech took an 18-0 regular season conference record and a win in the first round into the semifinal matchup with Middle Georgia. SGTC jumped out to an early big 1st half lead thanks to the Shontae McCall show. Middle GA fought back throughout the game and managed to cut the led to 2 points only to fall 77-70. McCall finished with 36 pts and 12 rebounds. Samanatha Phillips had 14 points and Shanique Holston finished with 11 points. Shanedra Lockett led the Lady Warriors with 18 points and 9 rebounds.
It took Georgia Perimeter 5 minutes to score in the second game but once they did they went on a 25-1 run and never looked back defeating Darton 56-34. Darton looked out of sync all night finishing the game shooting only 21% from the field and committed 29 turnovers. GPC's ShaRon Forte' led the lady Jags with 15 points.
DAY 1: With little fanfare, the top four seeds advanced to the GCAA Women's DI basketball tournament. South Georgia Tech defeated Chattahoochee Tech 67-48, while Darton outscored Central Georgia Tech 65-41. Georgia Perimeter had little trouble with Albany Tech 72-46 and Middle Georgia beat East Georgia 62-36.
The Friday 5pm matchup features #1 South Georgia Tech vs. #4 Middle Georgia and the 7pm game features #2 Darton vs #3 Georgia Perimeter.
