West Georgia Technical splits with Snead State
WEST GEORGIA TECH BASEBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER AT SNEAD STATE SATURDAY, 3-6 AND 5-1
BOAZ, Ala. – West Georgia Tech split a doubleheader on the road at Snead State Community College Saturday afternoon, losing the first game 6-3 and then winning the nightcap 5-1.
The Golden Knights are now 6-2 on the year. Snead State, playing for the first time this season, is 1-1.
Kyle Peals got his fourth win (4-0) for the Golden Knights in game two with an impressive performance on the mound. He allowed just one run on two hits through five innings of work. Peals struck out six Snead State batters while walking four.
“Peals has pitched well for us so far this season and he was good out there again today,” said WGTC head coach Todd Pratt.
Tyler Banks and Tyler Gunnin both pitched an inning of scoreless relief for WGTC.
Blake Butcher led a nine-hit attack for West Georgia Tech with two hits. Seven of the other eight batters in the lineup had a hit as Hudson Power, Sean Watson, Dalton Thrasher and Bryant Prather all recorded an RBI.
The first game saw Snead State erase a 2-1 West Georgia Tech lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to go up 4-2. West Georgia Tech answered with a run in the top of the fifth to close the gap to 4-3, but could get no closer as Snead scored another two in the sixth to round out the scoring.
Dalton Thrasher led WGTC at the plate going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Nic Vinson went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.
Chris Irwin lasted four innings on the mound for the Golden Knights and allowed four runs, although only one was earned. He gave up five hits while striking out four and walking none.
“Dalton Thrasher has really turned some heads at the plate and also with his defensive play at first base,” Pratt said. “Chris Irwin threw well but our defense let us down out there in that first game. We didn’t hit very well in the first game with runners in scoring position. I think our offense came around in game two. Snead State is a good team and I’m happy with the way we battled. We have a lot of room for improvement, but I like this lineup. It’s starting to solidify as we get closer to conference play. This is a good start.”
West Georgia Tech returns home to host Chattanooga State next Tuesday, with a doubleheader starting at 1:05 p.m., in Douglasville.
