Post Season on the line in big weekend series
WEST GEORGIA TECH BASEBALL PLAYING FOR POSTSEASON IN BIG SERIES AGAINST EAST GEORGIA THIS WEEKEND
CARROLLTON, Georgia – With four games remaining in the regular season, all at home against East Georgia College this weekend, the West Georgia Tech baseball team is in the thick of a four-team race for two spots in next week’s Region 17 Division 1 Baseball Tournament.
West Georgia Tech (20-28, 9-19) is battling Andrew, ABAC and South Georgia for fifth and sixth place in the final conference standings. The top six teams in the Region advance to the postseason tournament, which will be held this year at Darton State in Albany, Ga.
All four teams are within a game of each other, with Andrew and ABAC at 10-19, West Georgia Tech a half-game behind at 9-19, and South Georgia at 9-20.
The other three teams all have three games left to play, while WGTC has four left.
The Golden Knights will play doubleheaders against East Georgia on both Friday and Saturday in Douglasville. Friday’s first pitch is set for 4:05 p.m., with Saturday’s twin bill scheduled for a 1:05 p.m. start.
Two of the teams West Georgia Tech is battling for the final two spots, Andrew and South Georgia, are playing each other this weekend at South Georgia, with three games remaining in the series. Andrew won the series-opener on Tuesday 6-5.
ABAC has three games remaining at home against Gordon. Gordon won the series-opener on Tuesday 5-4.
The Golden Knights are coming off of a 2-2 split in a four-game series last week against Gordon.
If West Georgia Tech earns a spot in the conference tournament, it will begin play on Wednesday at either noon or 3 p.m. The Region 17 champion will be crowned on Saturday.
