Darton State wins game two over South Georgia 6-4
ALBANY - Darton State College and South Georgia College exchanged the lead seven times today as they entered the GCAA tournament, but the Cavaliers ended up on top with a 6-4 win over their conference rival.
South Georgia College jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second and managed to hold off the Cavalier offense until the fifth inning as Darton jumped ahead 2-1. South Georgia answered with a pair of runs, but Darton State managed to grab the lead and keep it after a strong sixth inning. The Cavaliers went up for good on a two-run single by Davis Knapp off Brandon Whitmore, plating Casey James and Ventavis Jerger.
South Georgia College was unable to overcome a three-run seventh inning deficit.
The Tigers scored one run in the eighth on a bases loaded walk by Cole Goodwin. Despite its efforts, South Georgia College couldn't finish the comeback.
John Harman got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings. Harman struck out three, walked two and gave up five hits. Chris Long came in late in the eighth inning after Cole Goodwin to get the save.
The victory sets a school record of season wins for the Cavs, who are now 39-12 overall.
Darton will play No. 2 seed Middle Georgia College tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., in Game 5.
