WGTC opens season with 5-2 win over Andrew
CARROLLTON, Ga. – Kat Moreno and Courtney Braswell each hit home runs as the West Georgia Tech softball team opened the 2013 spring season Friday with an impressive 5-2 win over NJCAA Division 1 member Andrew College in the Darton College Tournament in Albany.
Kat Moreno hit a three-run homer in the top of the second inning to put the Knights in front 3-0.
With West Georgia Tech leading 4-0 in the fifth, Courtney Braswell hit a solo dinger to push the lead to 5-0.
Braswell went 3-for-4 on the afternoon. Moreno went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and Katie Stone was 2-for-3.
Newcomer Blair Byrom pitched a complete game for the Knights. She allowed just two runs on eight hits and struck out four Andrew batters in seven innings of work.
The Golden Knights will play three more games in the tournament against Georgia Military later Friday, against Southern Union Saturday morning and Wallace-Dothan on Saturday afternoon.
West Georgia Tech will open the home schedule Sunday by hosting Chattahoochee Valley C.C., with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., in Douglasville.
