Number one seed Georgia Military College captured the GCAA Softball Championship by defeating Gordon State 8-3. The Bulldogs cruised through the winner's bracket after receiving an opening round bye as a reward for being the top seed from their regular season conference record. GMC had three straight impressive wins and a two-game sweep of #2 seed Gordon State College Highlanders by winning both the winners bracket game and the championship game.
The Bulldogs started the tournament with a 10-0 win to East Georgia State in Day 1 and then picked up a 12-4 five inning win against the Highlanders in Day 2 to push Gordon State into the loser's bracket. Day 3 saw the Highlanders eliminate Georgia Highlands 10-4 and advance for a rematch against GMC. GMC took care of business and defeated GSC 8-3 and win the GCAA title
Pitcher Alyssa Jones picked up all 3 wins through the tournament and earned tournament MVP accolades. Claire Clements, Ansley West and Carolyn Lehman also were selected to the all-tournament squad.
The Bulldogs now prepare to head to Region 10 to face their champion in a best of three series on May 7-8.
